Making Kanungu Green Campaign: Launched by the Diocese of Kinkiizi
I was all happy when several stakeholders gathered at the Naykatare Headquarters of the Diocese of Kinkiizi where 30,000 (thirty thousand ) natural tree seedlings and also 10,000 (Ten thousand) Beautification / ornamental tree seedlings were distributed out to various people, institutions, and church parishes.

The Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkiizi, who was the Guest of Honour emphasized that God performed His duty of creating a beautiful world and assigned a man to take care of it. He further said that this Oxygen Week was indeed worth celebrating because the rate at which this planet earth is being degraded is rather devastating.
Bishop Zoreka thanked the partners in this (Make Kanungu Green Campaign) including Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga who donated most of the Natural Tree Seedlings as well as the National Water and Sewerage Corporation. He further thanked Dr. Holger Lithal, a German Serion but Chancellor of Great Lakes Regional University for supporting this Green Campaign which donated 2 million in cash.
The Kanungu RDC Mr. Ambrose Mwesigye commended the good work done by the Church in the district. He pointed out that he was happy with the fact that it’s by the good leadership of Bishop Dan Zoreka that the Diocese of Kinkiizi has championed such global beneficial campaigns. He called upon people who encroach on the Swamps to stop immediately. RDC Ambrose condemned the men who defile girls, a habit that he has come to know is rampant in the district.
Eng Sam Kajojo who is the LC5 Chairman of Kanungu District promised the Diocese of Kinkiizi full corporation in this Make Kanungu Green Campain saying that this is the way to go if Kanungu needs to remain a prestigious tourism destination. He promised the Citizens in Kanungu that issues identified in the Rural Electrification program that has been punctuated with the discriminatory installation of electric meters and poles, that issue going to be stopped and rectified.
Present at the function were various District Local government officials, other religious representatives, and headteachers of schools and institutions that will be implementing this green campaign, given the fact that they have already prepared the gardens in which they have already dug the holes to plant these seedlings.
Meanwhile, championing this campaign was the Diocesan Secretary Rev. Can Kenneth Kanyankole who promised the residents of the district that he will follow up on these trees to ensure they are planted, watered, and taken care of till they thrive to indeed make Kanungu freshly Green as desired.
This is not the first time that the Diocese of Kinkiizi has led such environmentally friendly campaigns. It is one of the diocesan core values and God-given missions to execute.
