Commissioning of the Ruheza Gravity Water Flow Scheme
Ruheza gravity flow scheme was yesterday (13th April 2022) commissioned with a call onto beneficiaries to take good care of the project so that it lives its intended life span of 20 years. The project that cost over 300 million shillings was constructed by North Kigezi Kinkizi Dioceses Water and Sanitation project NKKD program and is located in kyajura parish kanyantorogo sub county kanungu district and will serve 1550 people including two primary schools, two trading centres. Although its construction was meant to take six months, it was greatly affected by the covid lockdown.
The project involved the construction of a six stance pit latrines for pupils and two stance latrine at kyajura primary school and the same at St.Prize nursery and primary school, 11 tap stands for locals among others.
According to the coordinator NKKD-WATSAN, Rev. Canon Eric Baingana, the project cost 303,620,000 shillings and 96% of this money was contributed by donors TEARFUND UK while the remaining percentage was contributed by the project beneficiaries in kind.
He however revealed that the scheme will be monitored by the diocese of Kinkzi and if taken good care of, will last over 20 years.
The chief Guest Rt Rev Dan Zoreka the bishop of the diocese of Kinkizi said they extended water to all places adding that they will continue doing so because water has no boundary, religious tribal or political divisions. He urged the beneficiaries to work at sustainability but also guard the project jealously.
The caretaker bishop of North Kigezi diocese Rt Rev Patrick Tugume Tusingwire asked the beneficiaries to take good care of the project so that they have continued access to clean and safe water.
Rev. Father Ignitious Arinaitwe of Makiro parish lauded NKKD WATSAN for extending water to all people irrespective of their religious or political background. He urged them to to the same to other parts of the district especially those that are water stressed.
On behalf of the district chairperson, Hon Christopher Kamara the district councilor representing kanyantorogo sub county lauded the locals who gave up their land free of charge for the construction of the project but urged the beneficiaries to use the clean and safe water to reduce on the disease burden in their communities.
The LC iii chairperson Kanyantorogo sub county Moses Kabalira urged the beneficiaries to own the project and take good care of it for sustainability.
The chairperson kYajura cell Bikorwomuhangi Cleti prayed that now they have god access to clean and safe water , government should plan to extend electricity to their area since the ishasha hydro power dam is found in their parish.
